Sundar was considered a bright medal prospect for India in the event in which Devendra Jhajharia clinched Gold with a world record throw.
Gurjar was at the venue of the competition with his personal coach Mahavir when the announcement was made for the participating athletes in the F46 class.
While Jhajharia and Rinku, the other participants from India, were on one side of the stadium with their respective coaches, Gurjar was at the other end of the stadium.
Jhajharia and Rinku's coaches were there with them and alerted them when the roll calls were made.
But Gurjar, who had been training in Rio for a month before the Paralympics began, and his coach missed the roll calls.
In such competitions, the athletes, who are disabled, rely a lot on their coaches but Mahavir completely missed the roll calls which were made not once, not twice but thrice.
People aware of the development, have blamed the coach as he was to keep a tab on the time and schedule of the competition of his athlete.
"Sundar was a sure shot medal hope and India have missed out on a possible fifth medal. What was the coach and the other officials from ministry and Paralympic Committee of India doing there," asked a miffed athlete who did not wish to be named.
Meanwhile, Sports Minister Vijay Goel has asked for an inquiry into the matter and promised strict action if anyone is found guilty of indiscipline.
