"Twitter will soon stop counting media attachments in its 140-character limit"
In May, Twitter announced that it would soon allow users to tweet longer posts by revamping its 140-character limit, but didn't reveal a specific date when this feature would be implemented. Now, according to a report by The Verge, the new format with big changes will be implemented on September 19th.
If the report is true, starting next Monday, Twitter will finally stop counting media attachments as characters, which currently take up to 24 characters. Media attachments like images, GIFs, videos, polls, etc.
and quoted tweets will no longer be counted towards the character limit. The extra room on the 140-character limit will give you more flexibility in composing tweets.
In addition to the media attachments, when replying to a tweet, @names will also be omitted from the character count. These changes will allow you to attach more media to your post. However, it's not clear at this point if all these changes will be implemented simultaneously or applied in phases.
