"The Cube 3 is Videocon's first smartphone with 3GB of RAM"
Adding another device to the budget segment in the Indian smartphone market, Videocon launched the Cube 3 today. It's the first smartphone from Videocon to boast 3GB of RAM, and the highlight of the device is the company's own SOS - Be Safe application, which is a safety app to help users through emergency situations.
The Videocon Cube 3 sports a plastic body, with an interestingly designed back panel sporting a repetitive cube pattern, justifying the device's name.
It gets a 5-inch HD IPS 2.5D curved display, with a layer of Dragontrail X glass on top. Under the hood, it gets a MediaTek MT6735 processor, aided by 3GB of RAM. There's 32GB of built-in storage, which can be expanded up to 64GB using a microSD card. The Cube 3 sports a 13MP primary camera with phase detection autofocus. There's a dual LED flash module as well. For selfies it utilises a 5MP camera complemented by an LED flash. The device runs Android Marshmallow, and is backed by a 3,000mAh battery. The Cube 3 is a dual-SIM device and supports 4G with VoLTE on both the SIM slots.
The SOS - Be Safe app makes its debut on the Cube 3, and will come preinstalled on every upcoming Videocon smartphones. However, the application will soon be available on the Google Play Store free of cost. The app is ad-free as well. The app allows users to instantly send their location to their preferred contacts by pressing the power button on the thrice. There's a 'Walk With Me' feature on the app which shares the user's location every few minutes or miles, according to the set preferences. The 'Reach On Time; feature alerts your contacts if you don't reach a specific destination after an expected time period. Another feature helps a person look for the nearest hospitals and police stations, should an unfortunate situation occur. If the location is turned off or there's no data connectivity, the app can send just an SMS without the location link, as first intimation. The application, as claimed by the company, has been optimised to work with phones sporting even 256MB of RAM, or with 2G internet connectivity. Videocon aims at rolling out new features on the app every couple of months.
The Videocon Cube 3 has been priced at Rs 8,499, and will be available in offline stores pan India. The company is bundling the smartphone with free 6 months of subscription to Eros Now. The Cube is expected to be available online soon, via Amazon India exclusively.
