AAP Govt's responsibility to take preemptive steps before people get sick: Sheila Dikshit on chikungunya deaths

The chikungunya death toll in Delhi rose to three on Tuesday, with over 1000 cases registered in hospitals across Delhi.
Congress leader and three-time chief minister of Delhi, Sheila Dikshit on Tuesday weighed in on the issue, saying it was the government's responsibility to preempt the disease outbreak by taking preventive steps.
"It is the government's responsibility to take preemptive steps when this season arrives, before people get sick," she told ANI adding that there was no fumigation in the city this time.

"We saw no fumigation this time in the city. If the government doesn't fulfill responsibility how will it work?" she questioned.
The first Chikungunya death was reported on Monday at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, where a 65-year-old succumbed to the mosquito-borne infection. Officials said the "cause of death was chikungunya with sepsis".
Both the centre and state governments have sprung into action. The Delhi government has asked people to not panic due to dengue and chikungunya, emphasising the availability of all facilities in hospitals across Delhi and in mohalla clinics.
"No cause for panic due to dengue, chikungunya. 1,000 additional beds ready for fever patients in Delhi hospitals," they said on Tuesday, adding, "Fever clinics in 262 dispensaries, 106 Mohalla clinics and 26 Delhi government hospitals functioning."
Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare JP Nadda also said that centre is ready to provide any help needed.
"Centre is ready to provide whatever assistance needed by state governments," Nadda told ANI on Tuesday.
