Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has divested his uncle Shivpal Singh Yadav of three key ministerial portfolios hours after the latter replaced him as Samajwadi Party chief.

The sharp differences within the party came to light after Akhilesh Yadav shunted Chief Secretary Deepak Singhal,who is considered close to Shivpal, and replaced him with Principal Secretary (Finance) Rahul Bhatnagar. Consequently, the Yadav clan supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav ousted his son as state party chief and replaced him with Shivpal.

"Singhal has been removed and put on wait list. Principal Secretary (Finance) Rahul Bhatnagar has been made new Chief Secretary," an official spokesman said.
Reacting over this move, Akhilesh clipped his uncle's wings by stripping him of the plum PWD, irrigation and cooperatives portfolios. While he kept the PWD portfolio with him, irrigation and cooperatives were handed over to Awadhesh Prasad and Balram Yadav respectively.
According to sources, have been reported on several occasions. The difference in opinion between the duo was apparent when Akhilesh opposed the merger of Quami Ekta Dal with SP which was proposed by Shivpal.
Shivpal, who is now left with land development, water resources and social welfare ministries, is likely to resign from the cabinet. Though there was no official word from him, sources in the party said he was "most likely" to tender his resignation tomorrow.
